Pausing, Reflection, and Action: Decolonizing Museum Practices

Museums are complex, intersectional informal learning spaces that situated in a distinctive positionality of power, social trust, and colonialism. For many people, they serve as community empower the imagination connect intergenerational learning, while simultaneously functioning prestigious institutions for research scholarship. Yet, Black, Indigenous Communities Color, museums equate to pain. everlasting monuments replicate colonial erasure violence through their exhibitions, educational content, curatorial, stewardship, collecting practices. In thinking about these nuanced paradigms, it is essential we critically interrogate how can responsibly move forward being held accountable past current harm without performative. My goal reflect on this complex dichotomy physical digital initiatives underscore museum’s anti-colonial decolonial practices decenter Euro-American historiography an context.
